From Academic Excellence to Industry Experience: Graduate Intern Completes His Training with Stark Energy

At Stark Energy Ltd (SEL), we believe that recognizing academic excellence should be the beginning of an opportunity and not the end of the journey. Earlier this year, Valentine Aggey, a graduate of the Regional Maritime University (RMU), was recognized as the recipient of the Stark Energy Award for the Best Graduating BSc. Mechanical Engineering Student at RMU’s 20th Congregation.

The award, presented on 27 June 2026, included a three-month internship with Stark Energy, created to provide practical industry exposure, professional mentorship and an opportunity to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world engineering practice.

Today, we are pleased to celebrate another milestone in that journey as Valentine successfully completes his training with Stark Energy. For us, this is more than the completion of an internship training program. It represents the progression from academic achievement to practical learning, from theory to application, and from potential to professional development.

This training program successfully blended practical field experience with office-oriented administrative activities to provide Valentine with a well-rounded introduction to professional engineering services. Exposure to Stark Energy’s technical service delivery through field visits to 6000 BPSDAkwaaba Oil Refinery and 20 Tons/hr Rikpat Lube Blending facility, alongside familiarization with activities at SELs workshop (which included servicing of Dry Disconnect Couplings) allowed him to gain valuable insights into technical service delivery and its application in real-world operational settings. These experiences were further complemented by participating in office-based activities involving technical reporting and research, as well as introductory training in Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems, EM&I Novel Technologies (including ODIN® diverless underwater inspection and maintenance, LIMPETᵀᴹ Intelligent Sea Chest Blanking, CLAMᵀᴹ diverless hull repair, NoMan® remote inspection technology, HullGuardᵀᴹ etc), Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) practices, maintenance culture and Stark Energy’s products and services. Together, these experiences broadened his understanding of the technical, operational, and administrative aspects of engineering service delivery.

Throughout his time with Stark Energy, Valentine has had the opportunity to gain exposure to the engineering and energy industry, learn from experienced professionals and develop a deeper appreciation of the standards, discipline and practical thinking required in the workplace. His journey reflects what the SEL– RMU initiative is intended to achieve, that is creating meaningful opportunities for young engineers to develop beyond the classroom and prepare for the realities of industry.

We congratulate Valentine on completing this important stage of his professional journey and wish him every success as he continues to build his career in engineering.

At Stark Energy, we remain committed to investing in talent, nurturing young professionals and strengthening the connection between academic excellence and industry capability. This is the fourth consecutive year of the SEL award initiative, which began in 2023. For us, the real measure of its success is not simply the award presented, but the opportunities and experiences that follow it. Congratulations, Valentine. Keep learning, keep building, and keep engineering the future.
